Fixed denture

restoration without implants

To fix a conventional bridge, the neighboring teeth must be ground down to serve as support posts. The new bridge can be anchored or cemented firmly to the posts (ground teeth) produced in this way.

This conventional treatment method has advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages

  • Surgery is not required.

Disdvantages

  • The healthy neighboring teeth have to be ground down, resulting in the permanent loss of vital tooth material.
  • Ground teeth can die because of the severe damage.
  • The stress on the ground teeth (posts) during chewing can lead to their premature loss.
  • Decay can develop in the ground down post teeth that carry the bridge.
  • Bone atrophy can occur because of the lack of force on the bone between the post teeth.
