For the implant to provide a firm hold for the final denture, adequate bone (amount and quality) is necessary.
If initial tests show that the amount of available bone will not be adequate, various methods to build up and replace the lost bone can be considered.
In many cases, the process of building up the bone can be combined with insertion of the implant.
